I just packed a necklace to ship to a customer in Texas. As usual, I feel grateful for the business, but now even more so. Part of the pleasure for me in having an Etsy shop is being able to share some of my good fortune with two charities, Feeding America and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. According to Feeding America, last year 37.2 million people lived in food-insecure households. As a result of the pandemic, that number has skyrocketed. I think we’ve all seen news stories about people waiting in line for hours to receive free food. For the past few years, I have been volunteering to distribute food in a local park as part of a local organization called Foodshare, (part of Feeding America). What is usually a relaxed atmosphere has become more urgent and cautious. Many of the people looked down as they received their food. A few actually apologized for taking the food, explaining that they were out of work. Others asked for extra portions, but we had to refuse in order to make sure that everyone got some. These things tugged at my heart. So, now, more than ever, I am so grateful for each purchase. Thank you and stay well!
